Met Council Hurt by Hard Times; Needs Your Help More than Ever
For 36 years, Met Council has served New York City's needy with dignity, compassion and effective services.  Now, city budget cuts are forcing nonprofits all over New York City to reduce programming, and Met Council is no exception.  At this difficult time, we ask all of you to please open your hearts and give generously to support New York's neediest.

Machson and Handyman Cut
With funding slashed by $285,000, we are closing the doors on our innovative Handyman Program, which provides seniors and Holocaust survivors with minor home repairs for safety and security.  Funding was also cut for the successful Project Machson, which delivers new and gently-used furniture and clothing to needy households.

children at toy distribution

Each year, Project Machson delivers more than 6,000 toys to needy children.  If we can't raise enough money to keep the program operating, these adorable children may no longer be able to enjoy their Hanukah toys.

  • By installing smoke alarms, grab bars in the shower or bath and strong door locks, our handymen help more than 1,600 seniors feel safe and secure in their own homes, at absolutely no cost to the senior.
  • Each year, more than 1,100 needy individuals receive free furniture and clothing through Project Machson, and each holiday season more than 6,000 toys are distributed to children in need. See the photos >>

We need to raise $95,000 to fund each repair truck and handyman, and $120,000 to fund a Project Machson truck and a driver.  Help us maintain these important programs!  Donate Now >>

Crisis Intervention Reduced
Half a million dollars was cut from our Crisis Intervention Unit, which helps people facing severe crises ranging from eviction to illness to family violence.  This painful loss of money comes just as more and more families, seniors and young adults are coming to our door with imminent foreclosures and inability to pay for their basic life necessities.

Please help us help New York City's needy.  Your generous donation can make the difference between poverty and security for a struggling child, family or senior. Now more than ever, we need your help.

Meet Leah: "Our job is to help each other!"
Leah was used to giving, not accepting; but when she was left unable to care entirely for herself, Met Council's Home Care program helped her by providing food and the comfort that she needs to stay healthy, happy and loved.
