Met Council is America’s largest Jewish non-profit organization dedicated to fighting poverty.

We create pathways from crisis to self-sufficiency for more than 325,000 clients each year through comprehensive social services, including affordable housing, crisis intervention, family violence services, benefits access, senior and Holocaust survivor services.

We run the largest kosher food network in America. We serve all who are hungry while specializing in the provision of emergency food that meets the cultural and religious dietary needs of food insecure kosher- and halal-observant households.

In recent years, we have dramatically expanded our services to meet the needs of our clients, with our food program alone currently serving more than 150,000 people each month through our emergency food network of nearly 200 pantries.

Our Mission

Jewish values teach us that we must seek the highest good for the greatest number of people, whether that good is obtained through fresh groceries for a needy family or a change in public policy.

As America’s largest Jewish charity serving the poor, Met Council works to address the most urgent needs of those experiencing poverty, homelessness, domestic violence, or any other crisis while simultaneously using our considerable influence and resources to eliminate the root causes of these hardships at the societal and policy levels. This is how we repair the world.
