Met Council is America’s largest Jewish non-profit organization dedicated to fighting poverty, and a national leader in deploying AI to expand human services.

We create pathways from crisis to self-sufficiency for more than 350,000 clients each year, the most in our over 50-year history, through comprehensive social services including affordable housing, crisis intervention, family violence services, benefits access, and senior and Holocaust survivor services. We pair experienced social workers with AI tools that cut bureaucracy, speed benefits access, and free our staff to spend more time on what matters: helping people.

We run the largest kosher food network in America. We serve all who are hungry while specializing in the provision of emergency food that meets the cultural and religious dietary needs of food insecure kosher- and halal-observant households. Our digital food pantry, Market by Met Council, is taught as a Harvard Business School case study in nonprofit innovation.

In recent years, we have dramatically expanded our services to meet the needs of our clients, with our food program alone currently serving more than 205,000 people each month through our emergency food network of over 200 pantries.

Our Mission

Jewish values teach us that we must seek the highest good for the greatest number of people, whether that good is obtained through fresh groceries for a needy family or a change in public policy.

As America’s largest Jewish charity serving the poor, Met Council works to address the most urgent needs of those experiencing poverty, homelessness, domestic violence, or any other crisis while simultaneously using our considerable influence and resources to eliminate the root causes of these hardships at the societal and policy levels. This is how we repair the world.
