Geriatric Social Work Services
Senior Services aids the aging residents who live in the Met Council’s inclusionary housing sites throughout the five boroughs. Social workers provide on-site case management and services, including:

Assistance with applying and re-certifying for benefits

Information and referral to other Met Council programs (food pantry network, benefits enrollment, and crisis services)

Long-term care planning
-
Short-term counseling
-
Workshops on issues of interest to seniors

Get-togethers and social events to combat isolation
-
Holiday celebrations
-
Some recreational programs offered in conjunction with Met Council’s volunteer department
Elder Abuse Prevention Project
Comprehensive case assistance services for older adults who have been financially exploited. Assistance with filing police reports, requesting orders of protection, applications for entitlements and benefits, accompaniment to court or District Attorney’s offices, financial assistance available to replace funds for rent, utilities, or food; or to assist with lock replacement or moving expenses.

Senior Repair
Home repairs for low-income older adults. Repairs include things like grab bars, lock changes, repairing broken floor tiles, replacing doorknobs, installation of screens etc. Services are free of charge and requests must be for repairs inside the home.
